In the past several weeks since I last updated my blog a couple things have happened: I had a Christmas vacation of two weeks, and then this last week I was in Boston and Albuquerque delivering one of the software programs we finished that I was working on.
The Christmas vacation was nice; I flew back to Chicago for a couple weeks. Advatech gives its employees five paid days off over that time period, but also has good discretionary vacation time that I used. It was somewhat strange not having any snow on the ground in Chicago. Although it may not happen until a day or two before, we usually have white Christmases there.
Then this last week was a delivery for one of the software packages I was working on, which calculates the radiation environment around the Earth, to help satellite designers know what they can expect and what effects it will have on the equipment. We started by installing it at Hanscom Air Force Research Laboratory in Boston. There was also no snow in Boston, but it was fairly chilly. While we were there we ate at a couple nice restaurants, including the Union Oyster House, which is the oldest continuously operating restaurant in the country, since it opened in 1826. Then we went to Kirtland AFRL in Albuquerque to install the software for them, too. It was an interesting week, but with all the early mornings, late nights, and delayed flights, I'm glad to be back.
