For spring break I went with about a dozen other people from my Christian group to an organization called Jesus People USA, in Chicago. They run a soup kitchen, several homeless shelters, subsidized apartments, and stuff like that. We got in to Chicago Sunday evening, and ate at my place, where my mom had made a very large pot of stew and some homemade bread. It was very good. On Monday we did the museum thing, as all but a couple of the group had never been to Chicago before, going to the Shedd Aquarium and the the Museum of Science and Industry, ending with a chop-stick dinner in China town. Then on Tuesday we started work. Nobody knew what we would be doing, and I figured it would probably be unpleasant drudgery (but probably good for me because of that). However, it turned out to consist primarily of carrying heavy furniture up a few flights of stairs, which while tiring, was not at all unpleasant. We also helped out at the food pantry, and about half a dozen of us help them put two unwanted 475-lb barrels of nacho cheese into their compactor. I had a really good time, especially getting to know the other people who went on the trip better. Here you can see the pictures.
