  I have decided that the main difference between the weather in Chicago and the weather in Michigan is that when the sun shines in Chicago, the snow melts, whereas in Michigan when the sun shines it just means that it isn't currently snowing. It just keeps on snowing here. Almost every day it seems like there's more snow. However, it's usually only a light snow, so that's good.

  It just keeps on snowing here. My parents told me that they had some melting going on in Chicago, but none of that here, except where the salt is especially thick. It has snowed a couple more times since the Great Snow of the 14th, but only a total of a couple of inches.

  It being a holiday today, I have been getting a fair amount done. I wrote the first draft of an English paper, read some more about George Whitefield for my Religion in America class, and finished up another poem about trees.

  The snow really came today. This afternoon around 1:30 when I took the bus down to central campus there was probably an inch and a half of snow, and the trip took only 15 minutes. Coming back at 5:30, though, there must have been 3 or 4 inches of snow, and the traffic was horrible. I walked back to north campus, which took about half an hour, and passed half a dozen buses headed the same way. I'm sure I saved myself at least half an hour by walking.

  It looks like the mechanical engineering course should be pretty easy. The first half looks like it's just the same physics I took last semester. The chemistry will hopefully also be easy. For the two humanities courses I will have to write alot of papers, but at least for the English course they are mostly going to be only half a page, it turns out. So that's not too bad. Before I started, I thought this would be a pretty hard semester, but now that I've actually started it, I'm hopeful that it won't be too bad.

  Well, I have survived my first week, although not quite successfully. I missed one of my classes because they changed the location between the time I printed out my schedule and the time class started. Oh well, I know where it is now.

  Since I am taking two humanities courses, I will have a lot of reading to do. This afternoon I went to a bookstore and purchased a couple dozen books for the two courses. I also couldn't find any used books, so this semester was quite a bit more expensive than last semester. I still want to sell back some of my books from last semester, however, so hopefully I can recoup some of that.

• Monday, January 5, 2004
  The break is over and tomorrow I will be back in school. Meanwhile, over the break, I got back my scores: two A-'s, two A's, and an A+. Unfortunately, I also got sick. I was sick the entire break, and now I am still sick. Still, it was a nice two weeks off.
