It's a beautiful day here in Ann Arbor, 50+ degrees, the first day in a long time that I haven't needed a jacket! Unfortunately, school starts again tomorrow, and I really need to get some stuff done today, but I really don't feel like it after having had a week off. Oh well, maybe if I start with some of the reading stuff now I will be able to get to some of the writing stuff, too.
I'm about to leave for spring break in just a few minutes here, but in the mean time I have made a couple recordings of myself playing a song on my bass through a couple of different sound modification programs I wrote:
I leave for spring break (I'm going back home) friday morning. It will be nice to get away for a week, even though I will still have a little school work to do. The weather should be downright balmy, though, which is nice. The winter here hasn't seemed as bad as winters in Chicago, although there has definitely been more snow. There was only about a week of really cold weather back in December or January. Other than that, it has been cold but not too cold.
Some people just don't understand. There were signs posted up all over the campus advocating that students boycott a woman who was going to be speaking at a local Republican organization because she is "so racist" that she wants to earn $0.73 for every dollar her male counterparts earn. Hmm. And they wonder why they have trouble getting respect.
I've finished the most important characters in my font. I'll probably post it in a few days when I finish the rest up. Here's what I've got now:
Well, Ali and I just went to the room selection this afternoon. We'll be in 3009 Ziwet house next year. It's pretty good in terms of location (across the street from where we are now) near to the food, and near to the bus stop. Unfortunately, it means we'll have to climb up and down 3 flights of stairs several times every day. Oh well. At least we didn't have to move to Bursley
I found a cool program online a couple days ago, an open source font creator/editor called PfaEdit. So now I am creating my own font. Here's what I've gotten done so far:
The warm weather (well, it's now generally between 20°-30°) has brought out all the squirrels. A couple days ago when I was going to class I almost kicked a squirrel. I noticed people were moving around something in the path ahead, so when I got there I looked down and there was a squirrel sitting there eating a nut. People were stepping within two inches of it and the thing didn't even move.
We've been having a heat wave here lately. The last few days it's been above 22° during the day, and last night it went above freezing and began to rain, and it has stayed above freezing since then. On Sunday the sun was even shining! Unfortunately, it will probably get all slushy now. But the warm weather is still very nice.
