I was randomly browsing looking at source code on Saturday when by chance I stumbled across a program that showed me how to do a complete rewrite of my iBug program. It now is much more efficient, and also allows you to use whatever image you wish instead of the default bug, if you don't like it.
I also got my frequency recognition program to work pretty well for notes above middle C. It is rather staticky because of random noise, but it picks up what note I am playing or whistling fairly well.
Now I suppose I really ought to be doing something useful, like schoolwork, but somehow, I just haven't been able to get back into doing my school since spring break.
I have been looking at my graduation requirements recently, and it looks like I have three more semesters of required courses and a few hours of electives. So basically for the next three semesters all be doing nothing but engineering courses. But that actually probably isn't too bad. So far, it's been the liberal arts classes that have taken up the most time, with all the reading they're making me do. At least with engineering classes, I just have to do the homework, which usually doesn't take too long, assuming I understand the questions. Which I usually do.
For those of you interested also in my non-school related activities, I went swimming this week for the first time this semester. I have also been working a fair amount on my sound programs, like the one I used to modify the sound of my bass guitar. Just this evening I added a live graphic of the sound data being processed. Unfortunately, my processor isn't powerful enough to run both the visual and the sound in real time, so it ends up sounding rather staticky, so I have to disable the visual if I actually want to listen to myself play. I am working on writing a program that analyzes my bass guitar signal for frequency, so that I can then transform it into practically any instrument by substituting the appropriate waveform, or else by using built in MIDI synthesizers.
It's been awhile since I last updated my blog. Last Monday morning I woke up to discover that a couple of my front teeth had mysteriously tilted forward a little bit in the night, so I spent the day trying to get them back into place, developing a toothace in the meantime. Tuesday the right side of my face was swollen over the gum area, and I was taking large doses of ibuprofen, which even then weren't doing much good, but I thought it would probably get better in a day or two. But on Wednesday when that whole side of my face was swollen up to my eye I went to the University Health Service, where the doctor told me I needed to be put on an IV antibiotic and sent me to the emergency room. At the emergency room I languished for six hours while I waited to be seen; meanwhile the skin above my gum began to swell up to the size of a grape, when it developed a leak and deflated. When I eventually got to see a doctor, they stuck an IV in my hand, and brought in a dentist, who took an x-ray. Apparently I had a dental abscess, and the bacteria inside my gum destroyed the bone supporting my teeth, which is why they were loosened. So the dentist numbed my mouth and cut a hole in my gum to put in a drainage tube. When I left the hospital, however, the numbness was wearing off, and they had to give me a shot of morphine to get me out. When I woke up the next morning, though, it didn't really hurt so I didn't bother to get the prescription for codeine filled, and it hasn't really hurt since then. The drainage tube has been removed and the swelling has gone way down, although my lip is still stiff, and my gum is still somewhat swollen and sore. But now I'm back in operation.
